Should I contact?

I emailed a coach twice through NCSA and they have just opened them. I checked back a few weeks later and I can see that they have viewed my profile. They have already signed 7 for my class but I don’t know how many left from the previous season besides the 5 seniors. It also shows on NCSA that they are recruiting for my position.

Pick up the phone and call the coach. I know that many student athletes don’t like to do this but honestly, it gets the best results. What year are you? What sport?

2017 and basketball.

Definitely call and NOW! It is way late in the recruiting process, so you need to get on it immediately. NCSA is a tool and can be very helpful (we used it for our daughter who was a recruited D1 track athlete), but you have to take the bull by the horns and reach out now.

I “signed” to naia but i’m not happy with my decision. Feel like i won’t be pushed to another level

@jumpermom my mom said if they were interested they would of emailed back and she’s saying the timing is all wrong and that colleges are probably on to class of 2018

@tiny294 Your mom may be right but what is the harm in calling to check?

@HMom16 That’s what I’m saying, but there is a JUCO coming to look at me next week and they are fully funded. At the NAIA i would possibly have to come out of pocket 1600$

I completely agree with @HMom16 …what is the harm in calling? You just might fill that last roster slot they were looking for. It sounds like you have great options, but don’t limit yourself when a simple phone call costs you nothing and could answer some lingering questions.

So should I let the coach i signed with know I don’t wanna now or wait till next week after the JUCO coach comes to see me?

It is fine to use a site like NCSA as a tool to get your profile out there to coaches, but you should never rely on it as your only method of recruitment. It is very late in the game now, but you should send an email to the coach at the school you are interested in to see if he might still be recruiting. After you send the email, give him a day or 2 and then call. Definitely always call. Coaches get bombarded with material from potential recruits and you are much more likely to get noticed if you do something to make yourself standout. Just be sure to think about what you want to say before you call so you sound confident. You have nothing to lose by calling!!!

Also, I would not say anything at this point to your NAIA coach- waiting a week or two is not going to make a difference. I’m a little confused- is the coach that looked at your profile from a school you have already applied to, or do they have rolling admissions? It just sounds like it might be too late to apply to any new schools.

I believe I still have time to apply but I’m not 100% sure that is something I will have to look into. I emailed them twice on two different occasions and the assistant opened the first one and the head coach opened the second one and then viewed my profile a day later. This is all about 16 days ago. @takeitallin

You should call to talk directly to the coach. If you are worried about calling, it sometimes helps to practice what you what to say out loud before you call.

The JUCO or the one who opened my emails (it’s a D2)

If you want to look at a D2, call them now. Getting late admission is something the coach can help you with. Do you have the scores and grades to get into the D2? Is the D2 (or the JUCO, or the NAIA) school (not the team, the school) a good fit for you?

$1600 out of pocket is a good deal. Not many schools are going to be cheaper than that.

I have a 3.1 overall GPA, 1000 on the new version of the SAT and a 19 on the ACT. I would fit in the playing style of all three but the D2 and JUCO I would fit better. (They have more or a offensive sir but it’s pass and cut vs. everybody trying to go 1-on-1 at the NAIA ). I just feel like I wouldn’t be pushed to the extent i want to be at the NAIA. I’m trying to become a totally different player and not static. @takeitallin
