hi! im currently a junior in high school. the school I go to is a vocational school so im studying allied health. ive already takrn some college classes like medical terminology and biomedical ethics. im currently in nutrition and college level biology. I’ve been thinking about what I wanted to major in college but high school science doesn’t interest me. physics and chem were boring for me, but bio is really cool its just that I have a hard time understanding whats going on sometimes. should I continue on the premed path even though chem and physics bored me but bio is interesting? thank you!
If you find sciences boring then probably yes. If we know your grades, AP scores and subject test scores than it would be easier to guess if you have a shot at it. Is there any other subject exciting to you? May he you are a math or art or sports person?
I have low As in my regular classes like English and language. I have a 93 in nutrition and an 87 in college level bio. I got a 1030 on my sats but it was my first time taking it. I love history!
It is too early to tell. You should first try to get in an UG school of your choice that is affordable, once you are in, explore a field that is suitable for your capability.
Right now you are a junior in HS, so you are not on any kind of real premed path. A premed path starts in college…sometimes later ( there are a few students…very few… who are accepted while still in HS… but I would not count on this). What I DO see is a HS student who is starting to explore, question etc different majors and opportunities…including medicine, healthcare, science etc.
I think you should continue to study in HS and explore your interests and strengths. You have time to decide if medicine or another field such as nursing etc is right for you. You may even decide to pursue something that is very different.
Have you taken any AP classes?
Good indicators would be grades of95+ in biology, chemistry, physics, and precalculus.
i’m currently in ap bio and i have a 87. i took honors chem and physics and got a 92 for the final grade.
Very few high school students know exactly what career they want to enter after college.
While attending a vocational high school may not be best preparation for being a pre-med in college, neither is it a fatal path. Med schools won’t ask or care about anything you did during high school. It’s what you achieve in college that counts.
I think it’s too soon to give up on your pre-med dreams, but you also need to be realistic and understand that the vast majority of pre-meds never get accepted into med school. Make sure that you keep an open mind about other possible careers and have a back-up Plan B career that you’d be OK with doing. (This advice isn’t specific to you–it’s for all pre-meds.)

For now, concentrate on doing well in your science and math classes. Work on studying for your SAT or ACT and retake it to see if you can improve your score. Once you get into college and start taking your intro level science classes (bio, calc 1, gen chem, physics), you can decide if you want to pursue med school or not.
Pre med students need to be strong science students, especially in chemistry (med school requirements include 5 semesters of chem, but only 2 semesters of bio). You will also need excellent math skills to succeed in your college science classes.
You don’t have to love physics and chem to be a pre-med, but you do need to be very good at it–at–or very near to-- the top of your college class.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
