I made the mistake of over-committing myself to a lot of things and haven't been able to self-study AP European History very much. I'm in IB World History right now, so I've learned a lot of the post-1800 European history, though not much about the 1500s-1800s, which is covered by the test. The test is next Friday.

Should I cram using REA's AP European History Crash Course in the next week or just not take it? I was aiming for a 5, and I doubt that will be possible with cramming, even though I'm fairly good at history and writing, so I'm wondering if I should just take it next year or something.

I have some other exams but initially, I want to make a decision just based on this. Do you think the Crash Course would get me a 5 if I read it (and memorized, maybe about half)?

If you’re willing to put in the few days of total concentration and memorization then I say go for it. I’d suggest getting maybe Crash Course and a more thorough book to read first, though. Maybe read through AP Achiever and then memorize most of Crash Course. It’ll help you get the broad scope of things because this test is a lot about connections over time and overall themes, not just straight up facts (which is what Crash Course is ironically great at helping you master).

If you’re actually intersted in the material then I say go for it even more. I’m taking 6 AP exams this year, a few very memory intensive (Bio, APUSH, Euro) but I’m still enjoying the heck out of this class.

Hmm, thanks. I have Modern European History that I’ve been reading out of every now and then, so with that and the Crash Course, I think I may go for it. Is there a score choice type of option with AP scores? If I do poorly, can I “hide” that score?

I feel for you man, I’ll be cramming MEH this weekend (only for a while, need to focus on AP Psychology!!!), and then really breathe, eat, and sleep crash course. Not forgetting AP Comparative Gov’t.

Don’t worry about it. The AP people know that this is generally high school students’ first exam and they have a very generous curve. I felt horrible after taking the test, didn’t study for more than an hour (and that was only through spare time after CST testing), and got a 5. Trust me, I suck at history. Don’t worry about it too much. I’m not saying don’t take it seriously, just don’t worry about it so much that you aren’t comfortable on the day of the exam. I guarantee you right now that you will pass.
