I am a rising senior. My grades are decent, but not great and my extracurriculars are pretty lacking, which brings me to my question. I have a strong feeling that I want to major in math, but I’m no math genius. No mathletes, no crazy accelerated math program, no nothing. I score better on the English portion of the SAT than the math portion, but my math grades have always been better than my English grades. Should I bother declaring math as a potential major on my college apps? Should I just go in undeclared? Should I declare something that my application lines up with better and change majors later?
I think you should go as undeclared. You’d probably have a better chance at getting in that way since you don’t have much background showing interest in Math. (compared to the other students who will be applying as a math major with much more ec’s based on their major)

What is your end goal for a math degree for you? What job do you see yourself having? I think researching professions and matching them to your aptitude would be beneficial. I was better at math than English class but I wouldn’t have been able to do the college level upper math classes but was able to do all the math required for the science classes I took.
