Well, I am a high school Senior and I have already taken the ACT and did fairly well on it (31), but I want to try for an even better score, should I still go for early action with that score and then send them my new score, or should I just not do early action and wait for the results of my retest? I am confident that I can do better because I experienced some problems during the test that impeded my ability to focus, but at the same time, I don't want to give up any competitive advantage that comes with early action. Thanks

Also, if this means anything to anyone, I am planning on applying to some competitive schools, and my GPA and activities and such keeps me competitive, but I wouldn’t want to fumble it all away because of a poor ACT score

If your 31 ACT puts you in the top 75th percentile of applicants, you are fine. If not, retake and apply RD.

Ditto – for example, if the ACT range for one of your top schools is 29-31, then go ahead and submit now and you can update once you get your newest scores. But if your 31 i below the 75th percentile, then I would wait and submit RD.
