Should I do Honors or no? (New HSH)

Hey there, first time here.

I was wondering if I should do the HSH, I applied to DS, and they deferred me into HSH as I was more interested in medicine as a career, as opposed to research. I am an A student, with 4 AP classes this year, and I don't know if Honors would be worth the extra effort if I'm going to apply to medical school. I want my grades to be as high as it can be, you know?

So I scoured the internet and couldn't find anything that would help me, so I come to CC to help me make a choice. Should I accept the HSH program, is being in Honors worth the extra effort, or will it end up hurting me in the long run?

Are there any extra perks for being an honors student?

Please help!

well with medical school in mind, i would think you should skip out on honors. but im pretty sure with smaller classes you can do better, so i dont think it will negatively effect your gpa. i dont know any of the perks/benefits but im sure their are some.

You should do some more research on this. It’s my impression that there is more grade inflation in the honors programs. In other words, once you make it into an honors program, the profs are reluctant to give lower grades. However, you might have more work to do. I think honors might look better on your med school app, too.
Maybe some other students will chime in on this, or ask on one of the pre-med forums.
