Should I do internship?

I am EE undergraduate at Georgia Tech and just finished up my sophomore year. I heard doing internship will land you a job easy however I would like to hear from a full-time job engineer how internship impacted his/her job opportunity. I have above 3.0 GPA and thinking of doing internship this summer.

It won't easily get you a job, but it helps a lot to have experience. I don't understand how it can hurt you; what else would you do during the summer?

not to discuss how I should spend my summer or your opinion in that matter.

As an engineering student doing internships is practically required so that when you graduate from college you have some real world experience to present to future employers. Many students end up working for the companies that they did internships with. I did internships in the steel and chemical industries but I ultimately got hired to work for an eletric power company. All of my internships were in manufacturing plants of some sort and I grew to like that environment. Internships give you the opportunity not only to gain on-the-job experience, but also let you evaluate what kind of work you really like.

GT567, GT has one of the best and largest co-op programs in the nation. It is also a school with one of the strongest industry ties. DO AN INTERNSHIP/CO-OP. Relevant work experience is one of top things employers look for, often times it's even more important than your grades. You should most definitely take advantage of the excellent services Division of Professional Practices offers.

Get as many internship and co-op as you can or you find yourself at a serious disadvantage when comes job searching. As a former recruiter, I would always take a B- student with great experience over a 4.0 "bookworm".
