should i do priority?

is it a good idea? or is it bad in terms of like housing, picking classes etc? ugh i dont know what to do

Could you explain what priority is? Curious here >.<

you have a high chance of getting in if you do pwl

you will have a hard time with housing during like the first 2-3 weeks but then you'll end up with better housing than other kids in the freshman class

i got waitlisted for both tepper and hss.
i was wondering if i can be on the priority waitlist for both schools or just one.

Anyone know the approximate percentage of kids who get of the priority waitlist?

it says 20% usually get off PWL on the letter i got today.

gah, i saw i was waitlisted and assumed there was 0 chance id be priority so i just put it out of my mind and assumed i was going to USC. i got the mail today and don't know what to do, 20% seems like a pretty bad chance and it says i cant even do EE if i go on it. it seems like it just isnt worth it, but makes everything a lot harder and more frustrating

^^ agreed.. That's me. It's risking PWL or just going to USC...

Does that mean that not everyone who was waitlisted gets to use the priority option?

yeah.. basically this really sucks, and we have less than 2 weeks to decide

Here's some more info about waitlists:

Alan's Carnegie Mellon Page

^^ yes, but thats old.. maybe 5 yeas ago it was 50%.. but now they say it's 20... its still a pretty cool site.. THANKS!

I got priority waitlisted at Tepper and HSS. I agree it frustrating with the whole binding thing. 20% is kind of bitter sweet. Its better than the regular waitlsit, but still not that good of odds. But that 50% on Alan's Carnegie Mellon page sounds great....too bad its 2008 :-p

Anyone know how many ppl are offered a spot on the priority wait list? Argh, this is such a hard situation

wait, i thought everyone was offered priority... and then you can CHOOSE to be to on it...

Lori, yea I'm not sure, from the different things I've read, not everyone is offered priority. On another note, do you think if you called admissions and asked how many kids from a certain school (like tepper) got off the priority waitlist, that they would tell you that number? I'm so anxious and frustrated

I don't think they would tell you a number.. that would be a little shady? you know? like they don't want to kids to think "oh not many kids get in so i shouldn't"

same here erunnum

I don't think they can tell you a number. It all depends on what their yield is.

i was offered the priority option too. and im confused. if i decide to put my name on the priority waitlist and then im accepted, do i have to accept the offer? like is it binding? and is it still binding if my fin aid does not work out?

To furyshade: Which program are you on the waiting list at Carnegie Mellon?
Do you want USC?
