but i figure i can work next year and pay for dorming

<p>If you can't afford you shouldn't do it in my opinion. However if you truly believe that you can work to pay it off + study, then I see no reason from stopping you.</p>
<p>I'm going to live in the dorm, I live about 25-30 minutes away on a really good day w/o traffic (ha! like that will ever happen).</p>
<p>I would not take on a part-time job just to afford a dorm. You'd probably have to work 15-20 hours a week, which would cut into your study time as well as social life.</p>
<p>i live like 15 minutes away and im not dorming. i dont want to make my parents pay that much money for me to live so close. yeahh you could work to help pay it off but you're gonna have to find a really good job that you will be getting that much money and its true your study and social life will go down. just become friends with a lot of people so you can spend a lot of time at UCI and at teh dorms</p>

i did some calculations
even if i do work
it will not be able to pay for other of my wants
like shopping, going out to eat and other things
oh well maybe next year

<p>Might as well get some audio books of some titles you like or learn another language during your commute. But to be honest, 20 min is nothing in the scheme of commutes.</p>

<p>If you're not dorming get involved on campus (clubs, greek life, etc) because you won't be meeting friends in your classes.</p>
<p>i have a similar problem, i cant afford dorming, so im thinking a community college. </p>
<p>i dont know what to do, people say it doesn't matter for graduate school, but its the experience. i mean i could get it in two years, when i transfer to ucla and live at home, but i dont know if its worth dropping 40 grand, to have an experience, when i can just, go to a cc, transfer to ucla, and pay absolutely nothing. </p>
<p>id have to work, which would cut into my study, and my family would be on a budget, meaning wed be counting every penny, and i wouldn't have a car.</p>
<p>i dno how true this is but i heard that ucla and cal will stop accepting cc transfers. i dno exactly when tho.</p>

<p>I would recommend at least 1yr living on campus. This way you will have experienced what it's like w/o missing out and make friends that will keep you connected after you go back to commuting and your debt will remain minimal.</p>
<p>Argh, I am in this situation as well! I live about 20-30 minutes away from UCI and cannot decide if it is worth it or not to pay that much money to dorm five days a week since I will go home on the weekends.</p>
<p>Hang out with friends in the dorm. Live at home. Save money. The dorms are mostly empty on weekends.</p>
<p>20 minutes driving is nothing.. I took the bus for 45 minutes one way in highschool.</p>
