Should I double minor?

I’m planning on majoring in Political Communication (basically a mix of political science and communications). I’m trying to decide if I want to minor in both International Affairs and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or just Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. If I do both and am able to get in to all my courses, then I would graduate on time. However, if for some reason I don’t get into all the classes I need each semester or if I study abroad and credits don’t transfer, then I would have to take a class or two over the summer or finish later. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do as a career yet, but I’m interested in all the coursework involved for both minors, so that’s why I want to do both. Would it be better to just minor and one and take the other courses as electives and graduate on time, or double minor and have a heavier workload?

Can you pick one and take classes in the other as electives as you state above, then if all the stars align and you get every course you need for both, declare the second minor then? Graduating in four years makes financial sense unless paying for college is not a conern for you. Also do you want an overseas experience as part of your undergrad education? If so, don’t double minor.

Two comments:

First see if your college allows two minors. At my D’s college students could only have one declared minor.

Second, personally i would not spend any extra time or money (ex. summer classes, an extra semester) to double minor. You can take extra classes in an area of interest and not have a minor. And you can always put on your resume that you took additional coursework in that area.
