I really am having a tough time with this class. The teacher is crazy and he said that most students finish with a C- in his class and I know I’ll be one of them if I dont drop this class. Will it hurt my college chances if I do? I’ll be planning on taking AP Enviromental Scinece in its place if I drop.
My other classes are:
AP Calc AB
AP European History
English
Marine Science/Zoology
Art (mandatory)
I don’t think colleges will hold it against you if you were to drop out of a class, I’d recommend that you drop out of that class if you are completely certain that you are not going to do well.
I’m having the same issue right now as well. I want to major in bio so I took AP Chem and AP Physics for my senior year and I’m doing terribly in Physics. I got a 67 on the first test and there’s not much room to improve as opportunities for points are low. I understand that college classes will be similar, but I feel as though, from what I’ve heard, college is more laid-back than high school and you have more ample opportunities for help with tutoring/professor help, while in high school, it’s always “go, go, go.” Not to mention that there is no more “rush” to be the “best” in order to impress a school.
If you are a junior, my advice is to drop. Junior year is very critical to college admissions, since by the end of the year your GPA and class rank are in a way “locked in,” assuming you’ll be applying to college early in your senior year. If you end up with a C- in that class, it will bring you down a lot overall as an A student. It’s not like you’ll be replacing the class with an easier one or a study hall, you will still have the rigor of 3 APs on your schedule if you choose to take AP Environmental Science.
If you are a senior, I’d still suggest dropping if the class is giving you a lot of grief. I understand the feeling of despair of doing poorly in a class you really don’t enjoy and it can really take a toll on your mental health and well-being at the end of the day.
