It is my third day of my junior year and I am currently enrolled in 4 APs (Bio, lang, us history, and comp sci A). I am also taking precalc, French 5 H, and criminal/civil law. I have noticed AP Bio becoming a lot of work as expected and I am having some trouble understanding parts of the textbook readings. I am willing to put extra effort in and get help, but am not sure if it is worth it.
We took a mini quiz and I got a 3/4 (surprisingly) and have another quiz on Friday. My teacher doesn’t really like me I don’t think because today in lab my group mislabeled some solutions/made a couple of other mistakes and she seemed quite concerned. It was the first lab and there was very little direction, I was also working with someone who caused many of the issues though some of them were my fault. Then I broke a test tub though my teacher wasn’t angry about that though.
Since left brain isn’t my thing, I have been told by college counselors it would look really good if I took AP bio but based on the events of today and complexity of the course don’t know if I am suited for the class. Should I drop it now or try to stick it out? I am applying to selective colleges, I know that is an important note. If I switch to honors bio my whole schedule would change and they are learning different stuff so I better decide soon!
Thanks.
What do you think you will major in in college?
Have you taken Bio, Chem and Physics yet?
AP Bio is alot of work. Does your teacher have office hours you can get extra help? Does the NHS have tutors you can talk to? Can you form a study group?
@bopper
I am definitely NOT majoring in something science in related in college, probably humanities which is my strong area. I took physics and chem honors freshman and sophomore year respectively. If I dropped AP bio I would move down to honors bio as bio is a graduation requirement. My teacher has office hours, there is a science tutorial at my school, and have friends I could study with.
Since you haven’t taken a bio class before then I would advise dropping down to honors bio like @bopper advised.
You can always take an AP science next year.
Thank you, @bopper and @IAmNotCreativ probably going to drop. Just revisiting this now, I am aiming for schools like Brandeis and NYU, will these still be plausible? I am in AP CS A, AP Lang, and APUSH also. I had straight A’s and one B sophomore year (took AP CSP, AP Macro, and AP Micro) and hope to get straight A’s this year (if I stay in AP Bio that won’t be a possibility). I am just worried that if i drop, it’ll mess everything up but idk. I am scared to go to bio everyday and just can’t stand it!
AP Bio is supposed to be the second level in the sequence after Bio Honors, so if you’ve not taken Bio Honors yet you should take that. If you think you can handle AP Bio senior year, otherwise APES is okay if you have strong classes in humanities/social sciences (AP lit, AP World or European History, and APFrench would be good choices).
