Should I Drop AP Chemistry

I'm a senior in high school. I took AP Chemistry first semester and passed with an A. I really liked the teacher, but she received a promotion and left us halfway through the year.

Today, I met the new teacher, who was my freshman biology teacher. She wasn't a very good bio teacher and I didn't really like her, and she didn't really like me either.

This teacher went over the course syllabus today, because she was new to some of the other students in my class.

She seemed very apathetic and had a bad, "going through the motions" attitude towards this new class. She also told us this is her first year teaching Chemistry AP, and that "she'll be going along with the book just like us." She told us that we have a very slim chance of even getting a 3 because she's new to this.

Should I drop this class? I'm Co-Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper and my co-editor and my newspaper teacher/advisor (and myself, as well) want me to transfer over to our Journalism class. What are the effects of dropping this class? I understand that I need to inform the colleges about any change in my schedule. I don't want this to look like I caught "senioritis", but I also would much rather take Journalism than AP Chem with this new teacher.

Will dropping this class hurt my chances of getting into a school?

I think that you have a lot of potential and, if you are not going to get much help from your teacher, you might as well drop the class and try self-studying. That way you can take both classes!

I think you should keep going. What are your career plans? If you’re going into Journalism, switch. You can also ask you newspaper adviser to write you rec and also explain the switch. Otherwise, a bad teacher might not be that detrimental if you have some natural ability. The teacher at my school literally has no syllabus and they do things like throw boiling water in the air and burn hand sanitizer on their hands during class. Lots of them get fours and fives. Consider a tutor, or working together with a friend.
I agree with Aaly222. If you’re really motivated, try self studying it and take both!
