i am currently in band as a sophomore in highscool. I am debating dropping it for junior. I dont enjoy it much, but please do not say do whatever pleases you, i am concerned with college apps in this forum. Would it be more beneficial to drop band in favor of a class like AP stat or should i keep band through junior year and then drop it? In band we are not very good and dont even go to competitions.
also keep in mind i have been in the band for nearly 6 years
If you want to drop band because you don’t like it, drop it and replace the time with another EC.
Don’t drop it to jam in another AP (or any academic class). Colleges are not looking for one-dimensional academic drones.
Don’t do what you think will look good on your app. That is pretty transparent.
What is on your current schedule? The AP Stats example you used wouldn’t be a big plus as a replacement.
If you don’t like it, do something else. Whether another academic course would be beneficial for “college apps” depends on what you’re already taking. As noted - after a certain level of rigor, schools prefer someone with arts/music/etc. interests rather then jamming in peripheral AP courses.
junior year schecdule would be:
ap lang
precalc
ap us history
ap computer science principles
ap physics
french 3
ap stat or band
whats the general opinion on this?
I don’t think it matters if you drop band but I don’t think it gains you anything to take it 3 years instead of 2. I would take it all 4 years to show commitment, teamwork etc to colleges which 2 or 3 years won’t show as well. However if you dislike band I would go ahead and drop it.
