Hi, I’m a rising sophomore that performs best in STEM classes. I also participate in varsity cheerleading at my school, which is extremely time consuming. For example, during the second week of school we have practice from 4-6 Monday through Thursday, a game Friday night, and then cheer camp from 9-4 on saturday/sunday. During winter season, we sometimes have 5.5 hour practices on school nights! Some parents are raising concerns over this schedule, but for now, it is what it is and I have to work everything around it. So, this doesn’t give me a lot of free time, and I worry it’s not going to be feasible with my class schedule. I also participate in clubs and want to start volunteering, so my schedule seems tight especially for just sophomore year.
I’m taking:
English 10 Honors
AP United States History – nearly every student takes this sophomore year; not a good idea to drop to honors
PreCalculus Honors
AP Statistics – don’t want to drop this; math is the easiest class for me and I want to take it now so I can go beyond Calculus senior year
AP Chemistry – takes 2 periods
French IV Honors
Financial Planning (Half Year)
Wellness II (Half Year)
I received recommendations for all of these classes. ^
I was second in my class last year, and I do want to try to be first next year, but I don’t want to base everything off of trying to be first. I’m just worried AP Chemistry is going to mess up my GPA (the midterm avg with a curve was around 55). I did well in bio and algebra II (both honors) last year, but I’ve been struggling a little with the summer work. It’s a lot, and it’s hard, especially when trying to manage with my cheer schedule and friends. But, I do want to push myself. Personally, I’m leaning towards the honors route now, but I wanted additional input.
