Drop calc 2? (Pre-med)

I'm taking calc2 right now, and so far I'm not doing too good. I got a low C on the first exam and probably a D on the second one. Should I drop the class?
I would have to work extremely hard for the rest of the semester to get a B in class. (Now, is that even possible?)
I'm a pre-med, so it is not required for my major or anything. I took it just because I like math and did super well in calc1.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!!

I realize it’s been 16 days since you posted this, so I’m not sure if you’ve made any decision regarding this yet, nor do I know your major or current situation in Calc 2. However, I will answer your question to the best of my abilities.

By “super well,” I’m going to assume that you got an A or A- in Calc 1. If you are HIGHLY confidant that you will FAIL Calc 2, then you should drop it. When med school adcoms look at your transcript, and they will see a W for Calc 2 and assumed “Student had D, so they dropped the course” or something to that extent. It won’t hurt your GPA if you do withdraw, though, unlike receiving a failing grade. I recommend different courses of action based on what you believe is immanent.

(1) If failure (C- or lower) is most likely immanent, then go ahead: withdraw, and then take Stats 1 in place of Calc 2 (Bio majors can choose either for their major, idk what urs is). It’s an easier class that requires little to no background, and with a a decent amount of studying. Many med schools even have it as a math requirement (Calc 1 & Stats 1) for admission, so it will open up more doors as to where you can apply. There are a few (eg: Harvard) where 2 semesters of Calc is the only option.

(2) If you think you will most likely earn between C and B- in Calc 2, then I present you with 2 options. You could move on to Calc 3, and earn a B or higher to prove that you are skilled at calculus, if you want to prove yourself. If you do not want to do this, then withdraw, and take Stats 1, as I previously mentioned.

(3) If you think that you will most likely earn a B or higher in Calc 2, then you should stay in the class. What you do afterwards is entirely up to you.

I hope I’ve helped you in your decision, but regardless, I wish you luck in all of your courses. I am a pre-med biology major at UF, and I’ve seen many friends experience what you’re going through, so can understand the position your in. Personally, I’m not mathematically inclined, so I took Calc 1 (got an A) and am currently on track for an A in Stats 1.
