I am in all honors and AP classes and i am not having much trouble with them except for French and one the first quiz for it i failed. So should I drop it for standard French?
Thank you.
Perhaps. Nobody here knows your abilities , the course rigor etc.
Did you fail because you weren’t prepared or because you didn’t understand the material?
Did you discuss with your teacher?
Did you discuss with your guidance counselor?
I also struggled with French in high school. I found it very helpful to use it outside of class. I started spending an hour a week with a bilingual friend just speaking French, and watching TV shows and movies in French. This can help a great deal. You might want to see if other people from your class would want to have a “déjeuner français” once per week where you get together for lunch and just speak French (however badly) for the entire lunch. If you have Netflix, the last time that I looked (which was a while ago) there are a few good shows/movies in French. Again a while ago the BBC had some good French introductory classes on line.
However, even if you do this it is likely to be better to do well in regular CP French than to do badly in honors French.
I agree with @happy1 that it is very hard for us to know how strongly you are struggling with this particular class.
If you have Netflix, try Astrid as a French show to check out. Really wonderful.
- Talk to your teacher
- How much are you studying? Are you practicing?
- What are you thinking about majoring in college? STEM? Maybe honors French isn’t as important. If a humanities, then maybe it is.
Others may be able to help you better if you specify:
- Whether you are dropping French completely, or switching from honors to regular.
- What level of French you have already completed.
