My high school is on a trimester schedule and first trimester I received a C in precalculus and this trimester (3rd) I currently have a D (63% and we're about a month into the new trimester) and next week is the last week to drop a class. I'm worried about receiving a D this trimester and having UCI take away my admission. Should I drop precalc and just take the math 1a/1b course at UCI when I attend? Because even if I did end up passing precalc this trimester, I don't think I would do very well on the calculus placement test (math isn't a strong subject for me). Any suggestions? Would taking math 1a/1b my freshman year screw me over? My major is currently undeclared but I'm pretty sure it's going to be in biological sciences and I'm hoping to maybe transfer to the nursing program.

There’s the possibility that your teacher is just hard and gives out hard tests.

When I took the placement test, it had been almost 2 years since I took precalc, and most of the placement test involved alg 2, geometry, and trig anyway.

Taking 1a/1b will slow you down, but it shouldn’t screw you over. Keep in mind that 1a/1b will not fulfill your MATH GE category, but that shouldn’t matter because you will have to take math 2a/b anyway for BIO.
