Should I drop Honors Precalc?

Hi, I'm a junior and I'm in Honors Precalculus, however, right now, I'm barely pulling a low B because I bombed the first couple quizzes and test.

I'm taking 5 honors/AP classes, however the majority of them aren't in math/science and I plan on majoring in Biology or Biomedical Engineering. I have been good at math for the past couple years on the honors track, so I'm hesitant to drop, but I don't want it to ruin my GPA. The rest of my classes I am getting As.

My question is, should I drop the Honors Precalc class, go into normal Precalc and get an easy A? Or should I stick with it and risk getting an C+/B-/B? (not sure on how well I'll do)

Oh and I plan on applying to some UCs, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Don’t drop it. You’ll learn a lot more in Honors, and that’s significantly more important than the grade. Plus, you’ll probably raise your grade anyways. If your grade is a B because you bombed a couple quizzes, it’s only going to go up as you learn how the tests/quizzes are formatted, what you need to know, how to study, etc.

IME that’s not true. I’ve found that on-level and honors classes teach basically the same thing since they have to go by the state’s standards.

Yeah, because knowing pre-calc is so important.

This I agree with. Pretty much everyone doesn’t do well during the first few weeks of the school year. I am too. But it always seems to work out. Right now as I’m saying this, I’m doubtful that I’ll make good grades (in lit, math, & AP Gov) this semester, but I probably will KNOCK ON WOOD KNOCK ON WOOD KNOCK ON WOOD KNOCK ON WOOD

Can you still go into Calculus with on-level Precalculus? At my school, kids who are in CP PreCal are barred from taking AP Calculus, they can only take Honors PreCalculus which doesn’t really make much sense to take the same course twice at two different levels…

Do whatever it takes, so long as you end up in Calculus.

No, if I drop I’ll have to take Into to Calculus senior year which is basically the same as PreCalc…
But I’m hesitant to stay, because my current teacher really isn’t very good and has a hard time explaining things and I’m afraid I’ll end up tanking more tests and have to switch into the CP class… i hate decisions

Don’t drop it. Change your time allocation and get the studying done. plan for the quizzes and test. Get a B or better. Best of luck!

Yeah they do learn more. When comparing an honors class to a regular class, there’s a huge difference. I’m sure you know this, but not entirely, because almost every state in the U.S. goes by the Common Core standards now. Meaning, yes, it’s what has to be learned as required by the state, but there’re still differences between the material learned, course wise. In this case, the common core has just made everything harder but on different levels.
