Should I drop my string orchestra class for a study hall?

I've been playing the cello for 5-6 years, but I'm not really talented. I'm going to be a junior, and I've been in the string group for my entire high school career. The thing is, I've never been more than second to last chair. I'm not a critical member of the group, so it wouldn't hurt if they lost me. The cello also isn't my main focus or my life, so I'll survive.

I'm in dire need of a study hall; I'm doing the IB diploma program. I have never had a study hall while taking honors classes. I also have never taken an AP/IB class, so I'll have a hard time adjusting. My gpa needs to
go up, and I need to keep my sanity.

What should I do? I need answers before school starts tomorrow so my schedule change will be free.

I think you answered it yourself. I’d drop orchestra.

As a violinist who goes to a school where there is no orchestra…I’d keep it.

But you don’t sound very interested in it. If you think you need a study hall, by all means use it! You don’t want to be stuck in orchestra when you could be getting an hours worth of homework in!

Keep your sanity.
Drop.
