I’m a sophomore and am currently taking orchestra. However, I don’t really like the class at all and I took it to just basically complete my credits. But since I don’t like the class, I was wondering if it was worth dropping out since I’m not planning on taking a music major or anything. Plus, I’m also taking 1 AP and 2 Honors classes, the highest sophomores can take at my school. However, if I do drop out, the only option left is being a TA and if I TA for a class, it won’t be a class with the subject I want to major in. So what I’m basically saying is is it worth taking a year of orchestra (plus rehearsals and festivals) that I don’t even want to take, or TA for a class that won’t help me on my college application and could even potentially screw me over since it’s considered a “slack class”? My extracurriculars consist of really high-level hockey and I’m planning on joining 3-4 clubs that will have competitions.
Are you getting a fine arts credit for orchestra? Would you be getting any credit for being a TA? How do the choices before you affect your high school requirements?
Since you said you need Orchestra to fulfill a requirement try mapping out your schedule for the remaining years and see where it puts you (doesn’t need to be exact classes). If you don’t do it this year is there something you like better for another year?
