I am a junior in high school. I am taking AP Chemistry, and normal physics right now.
Do you think it is better for me to take physics if I want to study science in college (probably not physics major)?
I don’t really like the subject physics and I don’t really like the teacher either, do you think it would be best if I drop it? My workload is pretty high from AP Chem.
In my personal opinion, I would drop physics NOW, but then pick it back up in senior year as AP Physics 1. Idk if that’s possible for your school, but some of my friends from high school have taken AP Chem then AP Physics. I don’t think it’s a good thing to not take physics because if you’re planning on pursuing a science major that doesn’t involve physics, you’re bound to run into a physics course and you might be expected to know some of it from high school.
Look at the schools you want to go to, see what their courseload is for the science majors you want to get into. If you at least take AP Physics, you can get a background in physics that’ll help you get through the class in college (or even receive credit for the class if you take the exam).
Honestly, this isn’t something I’m familiar with so see what other posters say and make a decision about what you want to do.
I hope this helped and best of luck!
Based solely on what you have posted, imo AP chem + physics in the same year (esp Junior year) is not a good plan for you. Junior year marks count a lot. A strong mark in AP Chem is going to get you farther in applications than an ok mark in chem + physics. If you were confident than you could get top marks in both at the same time, or if you were really interested in it that would be different.
@chocolate210 I agree with the above poster. Taking physics is probably not a good idea. Keep in mind that colleges are going to be strongly looking at your junior year grades. You need to try to do the best you possibly can. Based on what you said, it doesn’t seem that taking physics along with AP Chem will be. Wry beneficial.
I agree with the others. I was an engineering major, but still found physics really hard.
