Should i even apply to become a finalist if my family has high assets?

I have all the right statistics of a finalist except for our family's assets. We have no mortgage on a house worth 550,000~ and a car worth 20,000~. I'm raised by a divorced parent that makes around 20k/yr and absolutely have received any money or even contacted the other for my whole life. Should i even bother applying? The reason i ask this was because i saw a post that called 200,000 too high and people were still encouraging him to apply.

Hum, how can the property taxes even be paid? Is there child support, there should be and that is also reported as income on the financial forms.

I think QB is more targeting students who have a background of hardship. But I don’t know what to answer you I am not an insider there. Even if you aren’t a QB student, your background and financials will be considered at the partner and other colleges.

There is no money coming in from the other parent and no money coming in the government.

Do you receive any form of low-income aid from your state or the federal government? (ie Medicaid, state low-income medical insurance, free school lunches, etc.) If so, it’s possible you can be still be considered for QB. Your family income is actually below the average finalist’s income (source: http://www.questbridge.org/for-students/ncm-applicant-profile</a>). There’s no harm in trying!

With your income being what it is, I don’t think the assets will hold you back completely. If you are otherwise qualified and have a compelling story, I doubt it would be the nail in the coffin. Just make sure you are thorough in explaining your family’s assets.

By the way, if this makes you feel any better, FAFSA didn’t make me report family assets because our income fell below the threshold and your income is ~$9K lower than ours was. For what it’s worth, if I’m not mistaken, your assets won’t affect federal aid.
