I am wondering if I should apply to TASP. I read the brochure, and it seemed uber uber cool, but I don't know if it is worth the time I would spend filling out the application if I don't have a good shot to get in. For instance, one of the questions what books I have read and which ones were for school. Well, I have read a total of 8 or so books in the past 2 years, and all were for school. From this, does it seem that I may not be a good candidate for this program? I would be very happy if I got in, but I could be working on my RSI or SHARP app or prepping for the AMC in the meanwhile, as I am a mathier person.

bump........

If you make it to the interview rounds, the interviewer does ask about the books on that list- I have heard that they have a way of asking things that let them know if you really did read what you said you read. This is probably the exception, but my kid's book list was a full page typed list- she is a voracious reader and she did make it into TASP. They look at the whole package, but I do believe it helps to be well-read. In general, if you are well read, it helps stimulate discussions. It is a very intense program- in my kids, they read about 100 pages a night and wrote papers once a week. No one complained- its just a very intellectual and diverse experience. Go for it if you REALLY want it.
