Should I Even Bother Filling Out The Application?

I'm 21 and i want to go to Keene State in Keene, NH (Obviously).
I dropped out of high school when i was 15 because of bullying and it
wasn't just regular bullying, this was hardcore, things i don't feel i should
talk about...and the same thing has been happening every year and in my
school, 3 people took their own lives, one in 2005, one in 2009 and one in 2011.
(I'm not lying or anything for those who don't believe me, i have the articles).
So i'm not trying to make it sound like i want pity, i just want people to realize what
happened and how much it can damage someone.

Sorry to ramble. I have only completed 8th grade but i know if i could have actually
attended schoool, i would have had A-'s and B's (except in math. i'm horrible in math).

So, like i said, i want to go to Keene State but i have a GED.
I'm not exactly sure a GED is good enough but the School's
website says:
"To register for credit classes at Keene State, it is required that you have graduated from high school or earned a GED."

And

"High school diploma is required and GED is accepted."

I'm kind of on the fence about whether to try or not.
I don't have a GPA and i haven't taken SAT/ACT testing
and as i don't have my GED certificate on me, i can't say my scores.

I really want to go to college to be a psychologist for teenagers,
i want to help people who are going through what i went through.

NO i am not going to community college. It's just not for me, i've tried before.
Thank you.

You took the GED test somewhere. Don’t they have a record of it?

yes, they do and then i have my copy.

You should definitely apply, and if you get a chance, talk to someone in person in the admissions office. Don’t start out with your bullying story, but bring it up when they ask you why you want to study psychology. Keene may be a great start for you, but they will also want to see how you did on any community college classes that you completed. Do you have any ACT or SAT scores? That is another question to ask the admissions folks … since you’re 21 do you need those? Also, you may also want to talk to someone in financial aid if cost is any concern, and they could give you a realistic view of what it would cost to attend as a full time student.

Writergirl,

I absolutely think you shoud apply. In fact, you sound like you have a very interesting topic to discuss in your application essay (the damage you have witnesses on account of bullying.) I wish you luck :)

Writergirl, you shouldn’t have to guess what the admissions office at Keene St. is thinking, or will think.

You can call them and talk to an admissions officer. That person can let you know whether you’d be a viable candidate for admission with the qualifications and life story that you have now, or you need to add something more to your portfolio before they’d want to accept you. They may tell you that they do take students like you. The worst answer you’re likely to get is something along the lines of, “It’s unlikely for you now, but if you were to enroll in some college-level classes at a community college and do well in them, that would make you a much stronger candidate a year from now.”

Remember, the admissions office wants to enroll students. They’d much rather have a reason to accept you than reasons to turn you down. So if, in the worst case, you need to show them something more before they’d accept you, they’re probably not going to be coy about telling you what it is.

Even if they tell you at Keene State that’s what they want you to do?

no, i have never taken the SAT/ACT tests.

they have a program for non-traditional college students that you may qualify for; see [Adult Learners](<a href=“Welcome to Owl Nation · Keene State College”>Welcome to Owl Nation · Keene State College) It all depends on what they have as the cutoff age; it might be 25, but then again it might fit for you. Doesn’t hurt to ask…
