Hiiii. I just finished freshman year of high school and I've been looking into what kind of schools I should aim for in a few years.
At my top 25 ranked public school in NJ, we rarely send people to Harvard. I'm not really sure if we've sent ANY to Harvard honestly....but we have sent a handful to Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, and UPenn...always.
There is no class ranking, but I am one of the few students who are placed in the HIGHEST classes possible. All honors & AP for sophomore next year, and I was in all honors for freshman year.
The thing is... the transition to high school and moving to a new school while applying to boarding schools that I was waitlisted at ruined my year, and academically I did not try hard at all. All of my overall averages are B+s (overall for Bio honors is a B lol...hate that class) and my overall GPA is a 3.56 or something. -_____- yeah i know i know not exactly Harvard material.
testing wise, i'm taking the psat soph year. i took the sats in 7th grade and got a 1610 lol i didn't really study but i think it won't be that bad if i actually learned the material on the test.
I know that I will have to work extraextra hard next year to bring my grades up to A's. It was literally a 1-2 point difference and it KILLED me.
Anywayz..... moving on to ECs.
I have many ECs.....and sometimes I feel like I am TOO well-rounded. Is there such thing?
Piano- when I was younger I received 1st prize recognition in city & statewide competitions, and also Honorable Mention in the WPC(World Piano Competition), now I don't have as much time/energy to compete since I'm in high school now but I still play
Lacrosse- I only started Lacrosse in 8th grade but I was voted Captain of my freshman lacrosse team and MVP of Attack, i REALLY wish that I could be recruitable for Harvard's women's lax team but I'm not sure if that is possible since my mom won't let me do a club team, but i'm still going to try. oh and if I continue at my rate I will most likely be one of the 3 captains senior year. like i know that you can't say that for sure, it is VERY likely, especially since I care about it so much.
Field hockey- only started this year, my team isn't that great, might be able to get captain senior year if i try but at this point... not really sure
Art- have been taking private lessons since 1st grade, also take art electives in school, on the track to take AP art senior year and develop a portfolio to send to colleges, (drawing and painting mostly)
Photogaphy- i lo0o0o0o0o0ove photography i'm just kinda developing a portfolio of all of my pictures and stuff for colleges but its mostly just a hobby
Student Council- The ballsy one here ran for Student president freshman year and lost by 15 votes </3, but i'm elected soph rep and will probably just stay with that for the next 3 years, maybe running for corresponding secretary of the executive board senior year. its something i actually like to be a part of though, in elementary school i was VP
French Club- was freshman rep and will be a shoo-in for president senior year
Interact Club- just a member, community service
Student Auxillary- member, community service
FBLA- just starting next year, can probably get an officer title when I'm a senior

I'm kind of worried that people will see me as someone who just tried to do EVERYTHING to get into college, considering that I succeed in athletics, art, music, and leadership. I really am a leader though, I'm not one of those people who just try to get leadership positions. And I'm just one of those people who are interested in many things, which justifies my many ECs. i'm also pretty good at writing, i don't think the essays will be a huge problem, and I have an english/test prep tutor that helps me with grammar and SAT/PSAT stuff as well as having me read better literature than the jokes that my English classes are.

thank you in advance for your honest input, i will not be surprised if you tell me that i'm not really harvard material.
