I am a CS major trying to transfer to UCLA. I am currently in the first physics I need at community college, but I will be going to a different college next semester because it is closer to my home.
“You should complete the entire Physics Series at one community college (or
at community colleges within the same district where courses are exact
equivalents)”
I am currently at a low C in the class, and it appears I will need to retake it anyways at the new college I will be going to.
On the UC website it says :
"For transfer applicants, a course may be repeated if the student received a grade of D or F. UC does not limit the number of times a transfer student may repeat a course in which they earned a D or F. "
Does this mean my best option is to fail the class and retake it for a better grade at my new college and continue on with the physics series there? Will it affect my GPA?
Your best option, given that a retake is inevitable, is to withdraw. Same impact for SAP, no issue with whether you can retake a C, no GPA hit for purposes where a retake doesn’t replace the original (like med school, for instance).
The only situation in which an F is preferable to a W is one in which a W causes you to have to immediately repay financial aid or immediately lose your housing. Your school’s financial aid office and registrar are the best folks to ask about those items.
It is past the drop date, and according to assist I will have to take the full physics series at my new college. Would failing and retaking now knowing the material so I can get a higher grade be a better option? Or taking a C that will affect my GPA
I took the prereq to 4A, the first required physics on ASSIST, but at the new college I am going to the only coreq is CALC 1 which I will be taking. Now I am thinking the series is 4 A,B, and C correct? So I am in the clear? Also I am going to choose Computational and Systems Biology instead of CS, but I cannot find any info on the gpa requirements and transfer rate for this major? And does this major qualify for TAG?
