I am currently in my first semester of college at a community college and plan on transferring to a UC in Fall 2016. There are two classes I am having trouble with. They are both transferable, a lecture and a lab. The lecture is 3 units and the lab is 1. Even though the semester is not over yet, I think the highest grade I can get is a D in each class, but I have A's in the other three I am taking. If I retake these two classes in the spring will it affect my chances of getting into a UC?

here is what UC says

reading between lines on the 2nd question, it sounds like if you repeat the class at the same school then the original grade won’t count in your UC gpa. I’m not sure of this, though, you should check with a xfer counselor at your school or the UC counselor when they visit your CC.

You might consider dropping the classes and have a “W” instead, if it isn’t too late. You might find different classes that you can do better in, for what looks like science classes. You do not need to retake the same class if you received a “W”. Lastly, it will not affect your chances of getting in to a UC. Good luck!

I agree with @Happy2Help. Get the W. If you get a D or F, the CC will (likely) replace the grade with the new grade when you re-take the class. Check their policy on this- it was the policy of the CC I am familiar with. If you go the other route, the “W” will show, but I’m not sure anyone REALLY cares, and it gives you a lot more latitude to take classes that you can succeed in, rather than re-taking the same class, possibly with the same professor. Often it is the professor’s style compared to your own that hinders learning.
