My University has a "Class of 2017" page, and lots of kids post looking for roommates. I'm hesitant about putting myself out there... it seems slightly odd and frightening to me. At the same time, I really want to find a good roommate! I hope we can be friends! Talking with some friends at school, people brought up that MOST people don't actually look for roommates online, and you kind of narrow your pool that way only to the people that respond to you. I always thought just doing a survey would be kind of cool, but I'm nervous about being incompatible with my roommate. Which is the better option? Facebook or random?

Either one could find you a nice roommate, or could go horribly wrong. At least on Facebook you can talk before moving in, and ask questions that the survey may not cover. At least at my school, the random roommate survey covered when you sleep, and smoking. And that was it.

If you can look on Facebook and then go random if you don’t find a good match, that might be the best way to go. There’s no foolproof way to pick a roommate, but Facebook might give you a bit more in common to start with.

One of my biggest regrets is not going on facebook and messaging around trying to find a compatible roommate. I would 100% look on facebook.

try Facebook first. see if you like anyone

Be sure to ask the questions which affect compatibility. You don’t need to be best friends, but have mutual respect.

Id go with facebook, and then, as failure622 said, choose random if you dont like anyone. Things to think about?
- Smoking habits
- sleeping times
- anything you might be uncomfortable with (drinking, sexual orientation, level of messiness)
