Should I focus on the SAT or ACT more?

I just got my scores back for the ACT. I took it for the first time in April with absolutely no preparation (I went in blind). My composite was a 31. Math 28. English 34. Reading 34. Science 26. I'm still waiting on the writing score.

My SAT scores with minimal prep (See: 4 hours the night before) were a 760 CR, 690 Math, and a 700 Writing.

I'm aiming for at least a 2240 (or a 740 on both writing/math) or a 34 on the ACT.

I have signed up for the June ACT and the May SAT. The June SAT will be used on Subject tests.
So I will still have the October ACT and SAT date as well as the November SAT date (the last possible date I can take the SAT for SCEA).

At this point, which test should I focus on?
And is it difficult to raise the science/math score on the ACT?

A 31, according to the ACT concordance, is about a 2060, whereas a 2150 is around a 32 or 33 on the ACT. If I were you, I would maybe give both another shot since both are fairly easy to improve. I can’t say whether math on the ACT is easy to improve, since I got a 36 on math from the April test, which was also my first time taking it, but the math on the ACT is relatively easy if you can pace yourself well and get lots of practice. As for the science, I also can’t say since it was my lowest sub-score I got (29), but I felt that the science was particularly hard on the April exam. Given this, it might be easy to improve the science since 80% of it is the same skills needed for critical reading, which you have done very well at.

Thank you so much for the response! I’ll definitely take both again. I think I should be fine with the math if I brush up on the concepts that I haven’t used in awhile (Geometry) but I truly hope the Science section was just abnormally hard in April.

Did you do any prep work for the April exam? If you did, would you mind guiding me in the direction of what books to buy or how you did it?

Why did you take both tests unprepared? You just need to do a practice test to get your estimated score. If you did prepare thoroughly, you are likely done with SAT/ACT already in your first attempt.

I signed up for the ACT on the last day of late registration. I had never planned on taking it before. But I will definitely prepare thoroughly for the ACT in June and the SAT in October.

Don’t take anymore tests unprepared. Focus on the SAT and hammer it. best of luck!
