Should I follow the mentioned quote to write the SAT essay or just answer the question?

if the quote is "Technology promises to make our lives easier, freeing up time for leisure pursuits. But the rapid pace of technological innovation and the split second processing capabilities of computers that can work virtually nonstop have made all of us feel rushed. We have adopted the relentless pace of the very machines that were supposed to simplify our lives, with the result that, whether at work or play, people do not feel like their lives have changed for the better.
Adapted from Karen Finucan, “Life in the Fast Lane”

and the question is Do changes that makes our lives easier not necessarily make them better?

Should i write about technological change? or change in general?
Thanks!

However you want to interpret the question as long as your essay, somehow, addresses the prompt. So you could write about technological changes or changes in general. The advantage of writing about technological changes is that it has a narrower focus. If you write about changes in general then there is a greater chance the essay will be generic with fluffy words/ideas, which automatically puts the essay in the bottom scoring levels.

@hmays1 great! but i am talking generally not specifically about this essay.
Do i have to answer the question in the theme of the mentioned quote?

I learned that you do not have to directly answer in terms of (or even pay attention to) the quote. As long as you answer the prompt’s question, you should be fine.

^^^This is true.^^^ You can ignore the quote and focus only on the prompt.

Yep. Ignore the quote unless you need it to help clarify the prompt.

@marvin100 @hmays1 the prompt is the words written inside the box or the assignment?
This is my 1st SAT test.

Sorry, I should have said “the assignment” is the important part.

@rhshady12 Yes, the “assignment” will be your prompt. The example in the box is to help focus your thinking.
