Should I get a laptop for Christmas or wait until college?

Also, if you used a credit card, some of those also have a built in warranty.

I will put in a vote for refurbished, maybe because we’ve had such good luck with them (crossing fingers here). DD (in 2006) got a Dell Latitude, top of the line with all the bells and whistles including the case, extended three year in home warranty, extra battery, and software) for $900 through the Dell Outlet. Because it was a business model, it really was a powerful machine. It still works almost six years later. It had a return policy on the purchase…and it WOULD have gone back if it had not worked.

Glad you sent the machine back. You really should have no difficulty buying another. HOWEVER, if it were me, I would wait until you know the specification requirements for computers at the college to which you matriculate.

Also, didn’t you say that one of your “accepted” schools offered a laptop? If you attend that school, you would not need to buy one at all.

Agree. Get your money back and sit tight for a few months. Laptops always go down in price, and you can get a perfectly adequate one for around $400, if you dont get one from the college you attend. If money is tight, this can wait.

I agree with posts 62 and 63. There is no rush to get your laptop.

I ended up just returning the SONY, and I’m waiting until after graduation to get a MAC. I’ll have to save all of my birthday and graduation money to buy it, but I still have the $614 from Christmas.
