Hi! Currently I’m using a newer HP Chromebook, but have heard that they aren’t ideal for college? I’ve written 10 or so papers on it, and have had no problems using or printing with it. Since I’m guessing I’ll spend the majority of my classes using it for typing papers, should I be fine? Or would you recommend something else? (Nothing Mac wise please! That’s wayyyyy out of my budget)
I’d recommend you wait until you start college. You’ll have a better idea once you start college if a chromebook works for you or if you need something else. It would be a waste of money to get something now and then find that a chromebook would have worked just fine.
I agree. Don’t get anything new until you find out you need it.
I would get a new one. You need something that can run the full MS Word Suite WITHOUT internet connection. College wi-fi is generally unreliable. You don’t want to not be able to do assignments because the network went out.
What you get doesn’t have to be super-fancy, but it does have to be a “Real” computer, not a Chromebook.
This may depend very much on your experience. In my experience, college wi-fi was generally very reliable (at multiple colleges I’ve been at), and they tend to have good networks because they are servicing large populations.
I wouldn’t get anything right now. I exclusively use a Chromebook and have for 2 years now. Chromebooks and Google drive open without a WiFi connection and if you want you could even save work to a USB for emergency situations but I have yet to come across a situation where my Chromebook was inadequate
