"You’ve finished your final exam, handed in your last essay, and are in the middle of planning the ultimate graduation party. Going back to school might be the furthest thing from your mind, but for bachelor’s graduates hoping to kickstart their career, studying an MBA straight after undergrad is an option well worth considering.
To help you work out if pursuing an MBA pre-experience is the right choice for you, it’s important to consider these five questions." …
6 Am I interested in top-ranked MBA schools? Full-time post-college work experience, for multiple years, is essentially a requirement for admission to most of them.
Agree with the above in that @evergreen5 question 6 is more important than the five questions posed in the article. The top MBA programs expect a minimum of 2-5 years of meaningful work experience (in any field) with increasing responsibility. The lessons/maturity gained from work expereince that all of the students bring with them is part of the MBA experience at top tier schools.
The rare times I see value in getting a MBA right away is:
– If a profession requires additional education (ex. to be a CPA one needs 150 college credits so many go on for a one year MS in Accounting or a 5 year MBA program).
–If a person cannot find a job with your undergrad major, he/she wants to get a business degree right away, and he/she is OK not going to a top tier MBA program. (Ex. I know people who went into MBA in Public Accounting programs a year or so after undergrad as they could not find meaningful employment).
– If you a person is working and his/her employer pays for you to go part-time.
