Should I go back to my old university? Or stay at CC.

Long story short, my freshman year I went to a large public university and ended up failing most of my classes because of drug/alcohol use and other distractions (ended up with a 1.7 gpa). My sophomore year I decided to come back home and attend a community college for the fall 2015 semester. While living at home with my parents, things went well. I was able to excel in community college, quit drug use, and work a part-time job. Community college was a bit easier and I ended up making the deans list with a 3.42 gpa (not outstanding, but a huge improvement from last year).

I’m still debating whether or not to go back to my old uni or stay at cc. Since I’ve been living at home, I’ve grown very heartsick over missing my old friends and my old university. Even though I’ve done a lot better in cc, I’m pretty lonely and life is very bland at home. My old uni was actually a very good school and had one of the top ranked business programs in the country. I would of had so many career opportunities if I had just finished the four years.

My question is: should I go back to my old school or stay at cc? I would also like to add that my family is in a bad financial situation right now (dad has been unemployed for two years) and my old university is out of state which means I am paying loads more than I would at cc. In order to go back to my old school, I would have to pull out a lot of money in student loans.

Is going to an affordable in-state university an option?

Yes, but not until next year.

I don’t think being hopeful for student loans is going to work.
As a sophomore, you can only get federal loans for $6500 for the year. ($3250 per semester)

Where will the rest come from? The student loan companies will not loan a 20 yr. old much money, if you were to even qualify.

Because your parent is unemployed, your parent may not be approved for much in parent loans.

Finish up your AA at your local CC, then transfer somewhere affordable. It is understandable that you miss your friends there, but if you need to borrow more than the standard student federal loan, that OOS U is not affordable.
