Should I go here???

Hi! So I have been accepted into LSP, at first I really didn't think I would want to go to NYU, but I just visited it last weekend and LOVEEEE it. Obviously one of the major issues that might stop a student from attending here is the fact that it costs a disgusting $56,000 (x4).
My parents will pay for my undergrad education, but we don't qualify for any gov aid... should I still go here? Is it really worth that much money for school? I am hoping it is cause I would love to go here. Otherwise it's off to College Park (University of Maryland) for me!

If money isn’t a concern in terms of paying for NYU and saving up for grad school, then I suggest to definitely go! I had to decline NYU’s offer of admission to the LSP program because of financial concerns :/

If money is no concern, what would prevent you from going?

The cost differential is huge (esp. if you’re a Maryland resident) but it sounds like you really like NYU over UMCP. Do you need any money for grad school? If not, go to NYU. If so, consider UMCP esp. if the parents are willing to foot the cost for grad school. Either way, you’ll be at a good school.

It depends what kind of major/school you are going for after LSP. For me, I applied ED despite the daunting amount of loans because NYU was the only place that could offer me a industry respected media department AND the ability to create my own major. I would check to see the relative prestige of the NYU program you’re going for, and whether it’s viable career/salary-wise so that you can pay off those loans.
Also, go2college has a good point. If you are planning for grad school, it’s probably more important to save up.

Yeah, right now I have no idea what I will end up majoring in so that does not help me much. But my parents would ONLY (at least for now) pay for my undergrad education, I would have to pay for graduate school. But I won’t be in debt leaving undergrad, and who even knows what my plans will be 4 years from now. Blahhhhh, does it even out?

Look. If you’re looking at the cost as the only significant barrier to attending, but your parents are willing to shoulder the burden, how is this a question? I’m here and my parents are contributing zero.

It’s an absolutely phenomenal experience. You’ll hate your freshman year because it’ll be the most miserably challenging adjustment process ever, but it’ll be the strongest learning experience of your life. Period. And after that, it’s all amazing. You know the city, you know good people, you have great opportunities … it’s a wonderful life.

UM is a great school, it’s also Tier 1. Basically what it’s going to boil down to is whether or not you’re more inclined toward spending four years in an actual campus atmosphere or jumpstarting your adult life in the city of all cities, where you have the world at your fingertips 24/7 and there’s no looking back.

Do you want Maryland(hohum)or do you want NY(amazing)?
Unless what you save by attending UM can be put toward grad school(NYU).

Thanks for the input :)
