Should I go to a new school for senior year?

Hey guys, I posted this in the college admissions thread but only got 2 responses. This is a huge decision for me, and I really want more opinions.

Basically, my high school has a partnership with a nearby art school. Every day, kids (if they make it through the admissions process) can leave after period 5 (of 7 periods in total) to go to the art school and they come home around 4-5. I auditioned in 8th grade for guitar and got in. However, my parents did not want me to miss academic classes to do art, so they had me stay in school and pursue music outside, as a hobby. However, as the years progressed, I realized that I REALLY REALLY REALLY loved guitar. I have taken very advanced music theory classes, I play in 3 jazz ensembles, and my band is going to be professionally recorded soon and we'll probably be touring this summer. I have done published research regarding music cognition and I take part in music therapy at a local hospital.

I want my senior year schedule to look like this:
AP Statistics
AP Biology
AP Biology Lab/Study Hall
AP Psychology
AP English Language
And then I leave for art.

I have taken all honors/AP (weighted the same) classes thus far at my school and I have a 3.8-3.9 with a 230 on my PSAT (so you can get an idea of my stats). I want to apply to schools like Yale, Stanford, Columbia, etc. etc.

So my question is, is this a good idea? I'd only be doing this art thing for one year, whereas others would have done it for all four. Is it worth it? Will my lack of three years of this thing count against me?

I don't see how doing something you love is * ever * a bad idea (unless you have a passion for punting small furry animals). If I were you, and I loved music the way you do, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Would it affect me in a bad way when it comes to college apps? I have seen around here that starting a sport senior year is a bad thing, so would this work the same way?

You should DEFINITELY do it. Four APs plus a dedicated arts program will NOT hurt your chances. As the parent of a Columbia-bound HS senior, I have observed that his less fortunate ED/EA friends seemed unable to demonstrate passion in the ED/EA process. This opportunity bleeds passion.

wow i'm impressed, you should DEFINITELY do it if you a) love it and b) can handle it
Good Luck!

So this is all around a good idea? Yay! I'm so excited.

Sounds like a great idea. You're not really transferring to a new school, just taking advantage of a program your high school has.

^Exactly. It's not like you're actually transferring. You've got a rigorous schedule and have the chance to pursue something you love. Go for it!
