Disadvantages:
more expensive school & city
not as many connections as chicago

Benefits of Chicago:
Could get an apartment freshman year for less than NYU dorm cost
Cheaper (~$15 k or so cheaper)
Friends at Loyola/DePaul, and family close by
Closer to home (Cleveland, Ohio)

Any help is appreciated

Would you and/or parents have to borrow money to go to NYU? If so, how much?

i am responsible for 20% of the cost.
my dad is comfortable with me taking a loan out from him, because he is pretty well off, and it worked out when i bought my first car, and i’m financially responsible.

outside of my college fund, we’d need an extra $80k or so.

wherever i go, i pay 15-20%, maybe 25% eventually if i pick nyu

NYU is obviously in a better location, what is your major? Also, if you’re going to be paying your dad back, you might as well go with the college that makes you happier. You can make new friends anywhere you go and Chicago is really not close to Cleveland at all. It’s only two hours more to New York. However, if cost is an issue, Loyola may be smarter.

If your taking the loan from dad and he’s wealthy and NOT from a bank, then I would opt for NYU. It is academically superior.

turns out i would be taking out a loan from a bank for probably around 1/6 of the cost of the four years…$30k or so…not terrible

i just want to know your guys opinion on whether i should go to a superior school where i’m more psyched about the academic experience and campus, yet is more expensive (dorms, city in general, tuition) which is NYU in this case…ALSO, I’ll mention that I would enter into the LIBERAL STUDIES PROGRAM.

or pick Loyola based on the fact that it’s cheaper (city, tuition) and i could get an apartment freshman year (i have family in the northern suburbs, so i could say i’d be living with them) for cheaper than i’d pay for an NYU dorm, also have a good amount of friends there (i know friends can be made anywhere) it’s not that the academic experience of loyola is unappealing, it’s just that NYU completely blows it out of the water.

i have to pick TODAY, please help
thanks CC

“NYU is obviously in a better location,…”

It is? Are you familiar with Chicago at all?

Freshman at loyola are required to live on campus unless they are living at home. Check if living with your relatives will give you an exception

actually freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus.

exceptions:
financial (e.g., prove that living off-campus would yield substantial savings)
you’re from chicago, and living at home
you have relatives in chicago, to whose residences you can list as your address. college mail will go to that address.

so, yup, i can live off campus.

input guys! come on

If money is not an issue than I would pick NYU in a heartbeat, especially with some of the interests you selected. NYU has an outstanding undergraduate psychology department and their film program may be the best in the nation.
