Hi countrymen,

In your opinion, which is better - Chicago (econ major) or NYU Stern (presumably finance)? I got into the Stern Scholars program, both schools are providing mediocre aid, and my other choices are not so good.

Just wondering, how is the liberal arts education at Stern? And, if I choose to commute from home (1 1/2 hours away), will it be terrible for my partying/socializing/internshipping/general collegeing?

Thanks!

I'd say given the excellent quality of both schools, it really doesn't matter. But commuting 3 hours round trip each day....probably not recommended.

Thanks; wish I could dorm, but that adds another 10K to an already exorbitant package.

If you just major in one thing at Stern, you should be able to fit in one of the CAS majors the school lets you do, or a minor or two. However, realize that you have limited choices in the CAS majors you can do, so if you have something specific in mind, email a Stern advisor.

If you went to Chicago, you'd be paying approximately the same amount for housing as you would at Stern.... And yeah, if you commute from home and don't have friends with places you can crash at, it will probably put a serious dent in your free time.

I think it depends on what you want to do after university. For a liberal arts education, especially with a focus in economics, Chicago is unbeatable. Otherwise I think Stern is better if you want to work in a 'high finance' type of job.

Choosing between a Chicago econ major and NYU Stern econ major was also something I had to do. Unfortunately (or luckily, you can say!) I didn't get in to Chicago so the decision was made for me.
