Barnard is my dream school and I recently got accepted. They offered to pay for my travel and housing costs to come to their three night open house. I’ve never been to NYC before and now I have the opportunity to see if it’s for me for free! BUT it’s on the same day as my school’s prom.
They have other dates that I can go but I would have to pay for them and it wouldn’t include the extra night of events they have for first-gen/low-income students
I don’t really like the idea of prom but feel like I will regret it later
But yeah I know this is a personal choice but maybe y’all have some advice?
I’d visit Barnard unless you have the funds to do it another time. If you think it’s your dream school but haven’t visited, you really don’t know if it is. You are talking about 4 years of your life! And it’ll make you more comfortable going in the fall if you know what to expect.
If prom were a much-anticipated highlight of your high school experience, that would be one thing. But you sound like you just feel as if you should want to go to prom. If it’s “meh” - which isn’t that unlikely - you’ll spend the whole time regretting the weekend at Barnard that you passed up. I say look forward, enjoy the free trip to Barnard, connect with your 1st-gen/low-income peers, and take your first step toward a great college experience. Congrats!!!
Do you have a plan for prom? Someone to go with etc?
If you still have curiosity about Barnard and would make a decision based on visiting, go to Barnard.
If you have visited before and are definitely going, go to Prom.
