I know UC Berkeley is considered one of the best schools in the country, but is it the right place for me? I am graduating from a very small high school that doesn't have many classes. As a result I don't have any experience with AP classes and similar things. Because of this, I think going to Berkeley might be difficult for me even though I'm a straight A student. UC Davis is also a great school and I like the environment. Regardless, it's also a very challenging school. Work wise, does Davis give lots of opportunities of being hired after graduation like Berkeley?
Taking all of these factors into consideration, what would you advise me?

What would you like to study? It’s early, but what are your career goals at this point?

I’m not really sure about my major, but it will be in the science department. I’m also going to be taking pre-med courses.

I want to have a profession in the medical field so that I can help people with their medical problems in the future. That’s something I’m really passionate about.

The main problem with Davis is that it is far from SF so you wont be able to work and go to school at the same time.

Berkeley, meanwhile, is 30 minutes across the bay by subway or drive from SF. And it is world renowned. You’ll have to work hard, but it is well worth it. I think the decision is easy.

Yes, Berkeley is tough. But, IMHO, has much more to offer vs. Davis in terms of environment, sports and culture.

Thanks for your advice! I’ll take everything you have said into consideration before making my final decision.

I didn’t even think of that Bubbles For Sale, I’ll really have to think of that aspect too. Thanks!

Hope you like biking and getting your bike stolen if you go to UCD. Also it is hot as hell there, I literally hate Davis just for the weather and possibly because of the cows. Berkeley is cutthroat and will kill your GPA so if your planning to attend graduate school such as med, you’ll need to work your booty off at UCB. Getting a 3.8 or higher in UCB would be an achievement. Based from secondhand knowledge from my brother, UCD doesn’t offer much research opportunities and their frats/sororities suck.

Bikes get stolen at all campuses. To ensure yours doesn’t, buy a very good U lock, and always use it (lock the frame, not the wheels).

A 3.8 is an achievement at any school, and it’s still difficult to get a 3.8 at UC Davis. Additionally, Davis, while certainly not the research powerhouse that Berkeley is, still has plenty of opportunities for undergrads to assist with research. After all, it’s part of the AAU, a collection of the best research universities in Canada/North America. Undergrads can easily help out professors and get paid for doing so.

UC Berkeley probably offers better career placement, owing to its urban locatio

Ooh I hate to jump in after something has been concluded, but it may be worth considering (FatimaT).
What happens if the field of interest is still science, but is like food science, agricultural engineering, etc?
Is it true Davis is near some Autism research facility?
I already screwed myself over by choosing a LS major at Berkeley. Now the only majors I can change to are crap. Really makes deciding between Davis and Cal difficult…

Check them both out.

??? I thought you said that you’re going to be pre-med. IF so, what’s the point of that question? IF you decide not to go to med school, then some science degree will likely need a grad degree to get decent work.

Ok thanks for the advice everyone, it’s really making me see the different advantages & disadvantages of both schools.

Mom2collegekinda, yea I’m looking at all of my options because we never know what the future holds for us.
