Should I Go?

Hey all, I posted a few weeks ago about transferring, and I found out on Saturday that I got in! Do you think I should go? I'd be giving up a small liberal arts school with a great reputation (top 10 in the country, if you care about rankings). I'm most apprehensive about the transition from a school of 1600 to CALS. Any advice? I realize the choice is completely personal and that there is no right or wrong answer, but some feedback would be interesting. Thanks!

Key questions to consider:

1) Are you currently happy at Kenyon?
2) If you come to Cornell, do you think you will work hard to take advantage of the additional resources at your disposal in terms of research opportunities, student activities, alumni connections, etc.?
3) What are your current career plans? If you want to become a secondary school educator, attending Cornell wouldn't matter that much. But for other paths Cornell is able to open more doors.

You’ll see great things done, in the Ithaca sun,

if you sit on the Arts Quad, I’m told.

You’ll see Long Islanders in their polos and top-siders,

as long as the weather’s not cold.

But if it is freezing, then chances are you’ll be seeing

hooded masses sulking to and fro.

They’ll ***** and they’ll moan, they’ll drink coffee while they groan:

“Siberia, I’m sure, gets less snow.”

Observe, if you will, a pre-frosh named Bill,

who’s preparing to move into Dickson.

He’ll do course enroll, around the frats he’ll stroll, but

by September he’ll face a decision:

“What will it be, Bill?” his senior friends will shrill.

“Will you do one major or two?”

“Maybe change schools altogether! You could take up architecture!

Heed our advice, Bill, or you’ll rue!”

“If you become a hotelie, people’ll think that you’re lazy!

So leave table setting to the maid.

If you become an engineer, people forever will sneer,

‘that poor bastard will never get laid!’

Maybe take a sabbatical with the major Mathematical

and do problem sets ‘till you die.

Perhaps you might tarry with medicines veterinary,

And do cat dissections as you cry.”

“Have you thought about CALS?” will ask Bill’s pals.

“It’s all funded by New York State!

You’ll learn about the environment and bovine empowerment.

It’s a cause we consider first-rate.

And we’re betting you’ll wager upon the English Major,

if teacups, Bill, are your cup of tea.

Through Foucault you will suffer, beware of Judith Butler!

It’s I before E, ‘cept after C.

The Harry’s, Toms, and Dicks, who run campus politics:

They are the bunch you’ll want to know.

You can join a fraternity, find a secret society,

it’s only your own horn you’ll blow.

Face-time as an OL, or have dinner with Hillel,

and remember the Collegetown Creeper!

Join the E-Lynah forum, and there abandon all decorum!

Dave McKee: Convocation Speaker!”

“But what, may I ask,” adds Bill as he basks

in the smell of some Keystone and Beast.

“What do Cornellians do when their days are through?

“You must have some fun at least!”

“Well,” say his friends, “When our work’s at an end

“we retire to our quarters and study —

Just kidding! We relax! And we schtup in the stacks!

And we drink beer and liquors sundry.

Cornell! Cornell! Cornell, the seniors yell

and hear their voices roll down slope

None admitted yet shall relate to 2008

in terms of greatness’ scope.

Sure we’re graduating, but it’s time for elating!

We have no regrets at all.

We’ll miss life on the hill, but it’s all been a thrill

To live ’neath McGraw Tower’s call.

Ring a’ ding! Ring a’ ling! For oh-eight the bells sing!

Our final weeks on the hill are here.

We’ll dance and we’ll play, we’ll go nuts on Slope Day,

and harbor not one ounce of fear.

We’re not scared at all about what happens next Fall,

or whatever we then will do.

We’re proud to be done, it’s been a great run.

And so we say to our friends, thank you.

Falls this
evening, the
stream below the falls,
and picked up a
handsized stone
kidney-shaped, testicular, and

thought all its motions into it,
the 800 mph earth spin,
the 190-million-mile yearly
displacement around the sun,
the overriding
grand
haul

of the galaxy with the 30,000
mph of where
the sun's going:
thought all the interweaving
motions
into myself: dropped

the stone to dead rest:
the stream from other motions
broke
rushing over it:
shelterless,
I turned

to the sky and stood still:
oh
I do
not know where I am going
that I can live my life

hey SWINGDOGS,

Congratz! I am currently a transfer applicant to CALS too (although I don't know if I got in or not). How did you find out? Do they post the decision on the CU application status site?

Congratz again!
