'Ello everyone! I’m new to this site so I apologize ahead of time if I do something wrong. ;w;
I am a high school junior planning to apply to a number of elite universities as a visual art major (mainly focused in illustration, but if they don’t have that, general studio art or something illustration related).
Right now I have three major personal projects that I’ve already committed a lot of time to: an animatic/art focused YouTube channel [2.5-8 hours each week], a Webtoon (read: webcomic) [2-6 hours each week], and a novella [2-8 hours each week]. I want to send the polished version of the novella to a debut author publisher once I’m done with it, but I don’t how that will play out and would treat it as a self-published book (on Amazon ofc) for the sake of this forum.
I’ve already written the first draft of my common app essay, and have found that my application will revolve largely around art and storytelling.
My biggest question/concern is should I include these personal projects in my app? Will colleges see internet published things as silly/childish/a waste of time? What are the pros and cons for including these in my app? I love writing and drawing stories and wouldn’t give these up for the world (even if they don’t make for the best extracurriculars), but would like to know ahead of time what I’m getting myself into. Neither my YouTube channel or my Webtoon has produced spectacular results (numbers less than the thousands), but they’re fairly new and have recently started to gain some traction.
(For the sake of not being a self-promoting [insert appropriate noun here], I’m not going to name my YouTube channel or Webtoon.)
Tysm ahead of time!!
