Art Portfolio on the common app

what to include exactly in my common app art portfolio?
I have included some designs for social media posts, three web pages, and some posters and portfolios for some projects.
Can I include a video of myself “rapping” obscene rhymes ?!

  1. You should contact any school you plan to apply to and ask if they accept art portfolios and, if so, in what form. The general rule is that an art portfolio should be of really exceptional quality for it to help an application. Perhaps have your work assessed independently (ex. by an art teacher in your HS). If you don’t send in an art supplement you can include the design of posters and web pages etc. on your list of ECs.

  2. I hope you are kidding about the obscene rhymes. Think about it and decide for yourself if it would be a smart way to represent yourself to admissions.

  3. Admissions officers are swamped. They are not looking for extra things to look at, read, listen to etc. If you send anything supplements outside of the normal application be sure it is absolutely outstanding or it could work against you.

You shouldn’t put anything into your application that does not represent you in a goo d light, or add significant value to what is already there. Nothing in the OP’s suggested portfolio qualifies, and would more likely gave a negative impact.

As with the poster who suggested training his/her dog as an EC, I’m really amazed at the lack of judgment.
