I just received the letter of nomination, so I picked up the application today. I got nominated twice when I was a soph and junior but I couldn't make it for both.

I am now a senior at high school and I kinda don't know if I should join this time. At my school, we are required to obtain signatures from all the teachers and supervisors (which is hectic....like if you were in a Key club and you did community services, then you have to ask the teacher who was in charge for a signature even though there were like 200 members last year and the teacher did not even know who you were and if you really did something in Key Club).

I mean it's not that hard but I really don't know if joining NHS in senior year would matter. Sure, I will not put it on my college application because I will have to turn in this NHS application 2 weeks from now and that I guess I will not know that result until sometime in November or later and I will be completing my online college app in November also.

So, do you think being in NHS is really cool? Should I obtain signatures and join again this year?

And Have you ever been in NHS? What did you do?

Our NHS works differently. Basically, you get picked. They compare all the top kid’s grades and see who’s eligible. And on that day, the NHS members come to your class and dress you up like an idiot. So, we don’t need signatures. Like you said, it would be too late to put it on college apps. Most kids at my school are more upset if they get in senior year, because its so late. It’s a personal decision. If you want it for the personal satisfaction, then go for it. If you don’t really care, it could be a hassle.

You could state on your application that you were nominated for NHS. That is an honor. If you decide to go ahead and apply, you could state that too on your application. Being in NHS is one way to differentiate that you are in the top of your class, are studious etc. So it cannot hurt to be in it?

I just turned in my app for it today. Luckily, in my school I’ll be notified if I got accepted or not before my college app is due, so I can put it on there. Your process sounds pretty hectic and since you can’t put it on your app I guess it’s not that important, but maybe it will help you later on for a new scholarship you find? I think you should give it a try. It’s like a sort of “Elite Group.”
