Should I do National Honor Society? cus i don't want to

so i was accepted into NHS, but i don't feel like joining. I've read many posts on CC about how NHS is not important at all and how it's all "hype" and I agree. There are like 50 people in NHS in my school, and people who BS their letter of recommendation and leadership essay get in easily - it's more of a thing to see who's willing to go thru the work.

Basically, NHS means nothing at my school, and i don't see how colleges can tell.

I'm already in key club, so i feel its unnecessary to have NHS and key club at the same time.

Will not going to NHS make colleges reject me? Specifically, i'm talking about good schools, especially Univ. of Michigan - Ann Arbor, which i only live 30 minutes away. I can just say i refused to go to NHS to pursue service activities that interested me - i think that sounds better than just having "NHS Member" on my application. Seriously, every student these days have NHS on thier app, but not many have "I didn't join NHS because i wanted to pursue activities that MEANT something to me."
