I have dyed hair (blue atm) and I like to wear studded leather jackets. Do you think I should mention this on my application? Will it make me stand out and/or will the adcom think I'm a "bad" student because of it?

judging by the number of people at MIT who have blue hair i can safely say you won’t be thought a “bad” applicant because of it

Judging by the number of people at MIT who have blue hair I can safely say that if you don’t have blue hair you might be thought of as a “bad” applicant.

I’m sorry? Was that sarcasm? This is pretty important… (to me at least)

I’ve had colorful hair, including purple when I had my admissions interview. I debated writing my “what you do for fun” essay about it, but wound up not mentioning it. If you do mention it, make sure it says something about you other than the fact that your hair is colorful. (I got in for the record)

I didn’t think that you needed another serious answer after you already got one from MITChris since he works for the admissions office. I guess you can call it sarcasm, I just thought I was being funny. And I was reiterating the fact that a lot of students at MIT dye their hair cool and interesting colors.

No, don’t include your hair color.

I included it to emphasize the fact that I like being different from everyone else, whether it’s hobbies, dreams, or in this case, fashion.

If an admissions officer says it’s safe, then I’ll keep it in. Thanks!
