hi, im a computer science major and i was wondering if i should minor in something like economics or management science...trying to prepare for business school..i also want to get into investment banking but i understand that candidates should have a good understanding of economics..any suggestions?

the bs computer science program is already lot to handle..but is it worth it to take economics classes...or just keep my gpa high as possible?

thanks a lot

I wouldn't worry about a minor.

Many people believe that it's "necessary" to have a business-related field in college in order to get a Ibanking or consulting job. But that is not the case.

They look for Smart* and hardworking people from across all majors. History majors get jobs at Goldman Sachs all the time.

You might think, how will they hire me if I don't know anything about business? The thing is, you learn all of it on the job. Yes, all of it.

Of course, business background does give an edge.

In your case, keep your GPA as high as possible (and other stuff as well, of course). But if you are truly interested in Econ, do it because you're interested, not because it's required for a job. That is key to landing one of those top Ibanking jobs.

Pick the minor that will help boost your GPA, but if you had to take 1 subset of classes to help you in IB, take some accouting classes.

Accounting classes are the best useful classes you can take in finance-related courses. Econ won't really help you at all.
