hi…im using my sister’s account
but
to the point
I am a junior in high school at the moment and i am taking the following classes
AP english
AP Comp. Sci
Newspaper
Math Analysis
Honors Chem
AP US history

and im thinking at the moment to drop AP english
why?
Well I really want to focus on my SAT studying and plus, my english teacher is so unfair, she plays favorties ( with her previous students that have her this year) and she gives so many things ar once that its impossible to finish english before 12 am–and that with not doing any of my other homework!
Im scared I might get a bad grade in the class or I might ruin all my other grades
I love english and I plan to apply as a humanities major to Barnard ED
but I dont want to risk ruining my other classes
However, I’ve also been thinking that my schdule will not be looking all that good without my AP english
So at the moment…Im split—to drop…or not to drop
This year I am the Copy Editor and Advertisment Editor for my school…and there is a 99% chance that I will be Editor-in-Chief next year…so will it look weird that I didnt take AP english…??
IM SOOO CONFUSED
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK I SHOULD DO
THANKS

I understand where you're coming from. My schedule last year was APChem, APEngLang, APCalcAB, APCalcBC, and APUSHist, along with ArtII and HnrsCivics... the workload was tremendous. (I'm now a senior and taking a similar course load... bleh.)

As far as whether or not to drop the course- it's lovely that you have that option. At my high school, if you enroll in an AP course you HAVE to take it- if you drop it, it goes on your transcript as a 0. (And that is a very fast way to absolutely destroy your GPA. lol)

My advice would be that, if you think you're capable of hanging in there, fight on! But since you're so involved in extracurricular activities, as well... if you think the course is going to negatively impact your ability to do well in your other classes, it's not worth taking it. Ultimately, the decision is yours... you might want to try making a list of the pros and cons of taking APEng, and see which way the list is leaning.

I think it doesn't look good to not have an English class in your schedule. Barnard requires 4 years of English; most colleges do. I doubt that newspaper would count. So you would have to pick up another English class if you drop AP English. As you are a humanities major and possibly editor of the school newspaper, it would look very odd to not have taken AP English.

well if I drop AP english...then I would of course take reg. english....
soo you really think it would look odd if I didnt take AP english and im editor
aw man...gosh...I have noo idea..I know I should keep it..but the teacher is soo hard...she gives us 5000 things at one time...none of the other teachers are like that..
I really dont want it to effect my other grades
you think barnard would not like it
if I only take 2 AP's and 1 honors course?
hmmmmmmmmmm
gosh
I REALLy dont know

Moonbright, I really encourage you to stick with it. It sounds like that teacher is challenging you, and that is exactly what you can expect at Barnard from the English department. Especially as editor (and I would think you would "use" that as an outstanding extra-curricular activity), you would be expected to seek challenges in that area, I would think.

Hang in there. I truly believe you will be gald you did.
