I moved the summer before my senior year. It was very dramatic and unfortunate. I have played soccer since I was 4 years old. When I moved, I found a soccer team for the fall and didn't really like it. I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't with the girls or coach that I liked. The next season is coming up and I've been to a couple of the conditioning a for the school team. I haven't made any friends with the girls and in fact don't really like them. I can't decide if I want to go through with tryouts this season or just not play and focus on my school work and work. I will also be going out of town a lot the next few months, plus the season lasts until the day of graduation. It's a big commitment I can't decide if I want to make.

Do you hope to play soccer in college? If you do, you probably should play your senior year of HS. Besides, you may have more fun than you think you will. On the other hand, if you are done after HS, and you don’t think you will enjoy it, there are probably more valuable things you can do to prepare for life after HS. I can’t tell where you are at on the other aspects of school? If you are going to college, and have a tough classroom schedule this year, then studying and doing well on spring AP or IB exams would probably be more valuable, since it could save you college credits. My son skipped a fall senior year sport because he had a job that was really good experience for him. He would have been varsity cross country or maybe soccer. He has no regrets.

The only way I’d play in college would be in an intramural sport. I do plan to go to college. My job isn’t really demanding. I just know that once the weather gets nice (I live at the beach) that I’ll want to spend most of that time outside and not playing soccer. I’m not even sure if I’d make varsity either. And even if I did, if I wasn’t a starter I won’t play, it’s that kind of team.

Then I wouldn’t worry too much about the soccer.
